Hotels in Foggia

Italy

Foggia is a business city, so you can bargain best on the weekends, when the white collars aren't in town, and during winter when even the trickle of passing tourists dries up.

Albergo Venezia
Homely but convenient (between the station and old city) the Venezia is housed in a modern cement cubicle that looks like it belongs down the Jersey shore. Most rooms are so darn big that their spareness overwhelms, but the beds have a stiff backbone, it's clean as can be, and there's almost always room available (they'll even bargain lower in the off-season). Rooms differ only in that some offer direct-dial phones.
Via Piave 40, 71100 Foggia. tel. 0881-770-903. Fax 0881-770-904. 35 units, all with bathroom. 45,000L ($26.50) single, 65,000L ($38.25) double, 85,000L ($50) triple. No credit cards.

Cicolella
Foggia has two types of hotels; the bare-bones Venezia is one, and Ciccolella is the best of the amenity-laden, businessperson-oriented other. Although full of comforts like carpeting, fabric-padded walls, and sleek modern furnishings, it's as bland in an internationally standardized way as the Venezia is spare. Still, it's awfully cushy, air-conditioned, just two blocks from the train station (good for day-tripping), and houses Foggia's best restaurant. Suites sport a small extra room and larger desk. The lower rates above apply on Saturday and Sunday nights.
