Teh Castello Nuovo, or Maschio Angioino, in NaplesThough the core Maschio Angioino, or Angevin Dungeon, was built in the 13th century, the grand entrance arch wedged between two massive 15th-century bastions is pure Renaissance.

This unique adaptation of a triumphal arch was grafted onto the castle to commemorate Alfonso I of Aragon's arrival in the city in 1443.

The highlights inside—not stellar, but interesting—are the statues and frescoes from the 14th and 15th century in the Cappella Palatina; a middling collection of paintings from the 15th to 20th centuries; and the huge Sala dei Baroni, the grand hall where Naples' City Council still meets.
