Mauro's tiny one-room joint is a happy compromise between fiaschetteria and a trattoria. You set your own table and retrieve your own dishes from the high glass counter of the bar. It's open for wine by the glass and panini (sandwiches) from 8am, but doesn't start serving hot dishes until 11am.
These include such delectables as fettuccine alla lepre (noodles in a hare ragù), penne alla rustica (pasta quills in a heady pesto of oregano, capers, and zucchini), saltimbocca (veal layered with sage and prosciutto) or scallopine alla pizzaiola (veal drenched in mozzarella and tomato sauce).
