Planning FAQ

For one of the best meals in town, head just north of the city walls to * Da Bruno for excellent traditional Pisan cuisine in a trattoria setting.
Via Luigi Bianchi. tel. +39-050-560-818, ristorante.dabruno.it.

For a quick, cheap way to fill one's belly near the Leaning Tower, I always pop into Il Canguro, with its excellent panini (sandwiches), beer on tap, and surprisingly cheery and genuine service—something normally hard to come by so close to such a hugely popular tourist attraction. It's just a short block and a half or so due south of the tower.
Via Santa Maria 151. tel. +39-050-561-942.

Pisa has a great daily food market surrounding Piazza Vettovaglie supplying market trattorie like * S. Omobono, its tiny tables ranged around a medieval column and its dishes die-hard Pisan. (The house wine is a bit odd, though; order a cheap bottle instead.)
Piazza S. Omobono 6. tel. +39-050-540-847.

Another locals' favorite is Osteria La Grotta, serving Tuscan dishes in a convivial faux-cavern setting until 10:45pm, when becomes a wine bar.
Via San Francesco 103. tel. +39-050-578-105, www.osterialagrotta.com.
