Rome's Colosseo still ranks as the world's most famous sports arena, site of gladiator combat and the wholesale slaughter of wild beasts to amuse the public
The Spanish Steps, Piazza di Spagna, Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti—by whatever name you call it, this is one of Rome's prime outdoor living rooms, an elegant gathering place for locals and tourists alike
The Fontana di Trevi just may be the world's most famous wishing well—certainly one of the most lucrative, what with every tourist tossing "three coins in a fountain"
Universally known as "The Wedding Cake" or "The Giant Typewriter," the Victory Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II at the very center of Rome is the hideously ugly monument you gotta love anyway
This triumphal column reads like an ancient Roman comic strip of the Emperor's accomplishments

Explore the historic centre of Rome on this 2 and a half hour walking tour, which includes the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps, Campo de Fiori, and many other famous sites and monuments. The Eternal City is best experienced on foot, and this is the perfect introduction to the enchanting heart of Rome. Group sizes are limited to 12, and the tour includes gelato at a famous Roman gelateria.
To understand Rome, you have to explore it, and theres no better exploration than an in-depth, 2 and a half hour walking tour of the historic centre with an expert guide. In the company of your guide you will enjoy a journey through 3,000 years of history, visiting the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, and many more important sites, before stopping to refuel on gelato.
After a relaxing passeggiata (stroll) down the Corso Romes most famous shopping street youll experience the Rome of La Dolce Vita with a visit to the Trevi Fountain. No matter how many pictures you have seen, nothing compares to the experience of visiting the Trevi in person, and, of course, throwing a coin into the fountain to ensure your return to the Eternal City.
More splendour awaits you in Piazza di Spagna, the location of the Spanish Steps. You will climb the steps to admire the spectacular panorama, and learn the fascinating history of the neighbourhood, including the little-known story behind the Barcaccia (ugly boat) fountain in the square.
The most sacred spot in the historic centre of Rome is without a doubt the Pantheon, which has been in use for 2,000 years. Built on the site of an even earlier temple during the 1st century, the Pantheon was an important pagan temple for a few centuries, until it was transformed into a Christian church. It was this transformation that enabled it to survive, avoiding the fate of most other pagan temples. During your tour of the Pantheon youll learn about its rich history and extraordinary architecture, and also pay a visit to the tomb of Raphael, one of the privileged few to be buried here.
A short walk takes you to the beautiful Piazza Navona, where you will have the chance to admire Berninis magnificent Fountain of the Four Rivers and learn the story behind its creation, as well as uncovering the ancient origins of the piazzas unusual shape.
Join your local guide in the squares and alleys of central Rome to discover the history, myths and legends of the Eternal City a walk to remember.
Start your morning with either a hotel pickup or by meeting your guide near Rome Termini Station. From this point, your classic Rome tour heads to Romes centro storico, passing through Piazza della Repubblica to see the Fountain of the Nyadds (Fontana delle Naiadi).
The centro storico was made for carefree strolling, with a myriad of cobbled footpaths and picturesque piazzas, lined by buzzing pavement-side cafés. Baroque churches, fountains and palazzos built during the Renaissance are scattered around, adding to the oh-so-Roman charm that abounds.
Amble to Trevi Fountain, hearing about its coin-throwing traditions from your guide, and then stop to throw one in yourself. Do it according to legend: throw one coin to visit Rome again, two coins to fall in love with an Italian, and a third coin to marry one! After posing for photos in front of the dazzling masterpiece, stroll over to the Column of Marcus Aurelius, and then walk over to Palazzo di Montecitorio -- an elegant Bernini-designed palace that is now used as a parliament building.
Head inside Rome Pantheon and marvel at the interior of the citys best-preserved ancient monument. Officially a church, the Pantheon contains several tombs of eminent Italians, like the Renaissance genius Raphael. Pose for pictures from the outside and then walk from Piazza della Rotonda to Piazza Navona to admire its lavish Bernini fountains.
Hop back on board your coach and end your tour back at the start point. Alternatively, request a drop-off at one of four different locations; simply let your guide know on the day.

* You can use this formula for all Italian ten-place numbers—so 31 is trent'uno, 32 is trenta due, 33 is trenta tre, etc. Note that—like uno (one), otto (eight) also starts with a vowel—all "-8" numbers are also abbreviated (vent'otto, trent'otto, etc.).
