THE FIRST OPERA DINNER INSIDE A CHURCH!! A woman with a legendary beauty, Lucrezia inspired the contrived and unwieldy gossip that led to her disdainful historical image as the poisoner. This show includes some lyrical arias of Lucrezia Borgia di Donizetti which were inspired by the biography of Victor Hugo. The story highlights some of her famous romances, and will shed new perspectives on the Pope's daughter. In our story one of the Pope's imaginary descendants retraces their legendary ancestor. The discovery of a missing letter introduces the occult mysteries of an era in which the "Acquetta dei Borgia" was considered one of the most insidious poisons in which the life of the powerful was subject to the intrigues between opposing factions. The concert is accompanied by an experiential dinner with a Renaissance theme.
The Renaissance in Rome is the triumph of light that hides shadows full of mystery. Lucrezia Borgia, daughter of Pope Alexander VI, is the symbol of this contradiction. She spent many years in Rome, living for some time in the Palazzo Orsini wherein the Cappella Orsini its now ancient Chapel and the setting of our performance is located. When you book a small group tour, you are guaranteed one tour guide per group of 6 people. As we accept bookings in multiples of six, math doesnt always work in our favor to help accommodate individual travelers and their families when on the same tour, so we hope you understand and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Raphael was the most prolific High Renaissance master. A highly proficient painter in youth, he honed his skills in Siena and Florence before flourishing in Rome. Raphael incurred the wrath of Michelangelo and tried to save the Roman Forum as prefect of antiquities under Leo X.
Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, Urbino being the name of the town where he was born some 145 kms outside Rome (region of Marche), died on his 37th birthday (April 6th) in 1520. Entombed in the Pantheon and revered as much today as in his prime, Raphael lived and worked at the same time as his contemporary and main rival, Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni. Our private Raphael tour in Rome explains how the paintings in the Sistine Chapel interwove his life with that of Michelangelo and the young Raphael's mentor, Perugino, both of whom he imitated in order to create his own inimitable style. We see the works of art he created in Rome, we explore his skills as a draftsman, and we unravel the complex nature of his relationships (and untimely demise from syphilis).
Born into the Court of Urbino with enviable ascribed status, Raphael, the great imitator, became the greatest High Renaissance master. A painter of immense natural ability, he possessed an unquenchable desire to learn. Family background and social status proffered him unlimited access to the works and workshops of his contemporaries, which almost certainly helped him get acquainted with patrons and powerful contacts during his career. Having learned from his painter and courtier father Giovanni Santi, then becoming a master in the court aged 17 years, Raphael spent time in Siena with Pinturicchio, Città di Castello where he learned from Signorelli, and then Florence where he was greatly influenced by Da Vinci, before moving to Rome.
Donato Bramante, who was related to Raphael, prompted Pope Julius II to introduce the young rising star to Rome, where he lived until his death. Raphael's creations in the Vatican, which continued under Medici Pope Leo X after the death of Julius II in 1513, are of course his best known commissions. In addition to studying the magnificent Raphael Rooms (Vatican Museums), we visit Villa Farnesina, Church of Santa Maria della Pace, the Chigi Chapel (Church of Santa Maria del Popolo), and Church of Sant'Ignazio to round off this fascinating, in-depth private Raphael tour in Rome. You will see the following paintings; "Loggia of Cupid and Psyche" (1517), "Creation of the World" (1516), "The Sibyls" (1514), "The Triumph of Galatea" (1512), and all Raphael's works in the Vatican Museums. In the Borghese Gallery (self-guided) you will see and learn about "Portrait of a Man" (1502), "Young Woman with Unicorn" (1506), and "The Deposition of Christ" (1508).
Numbers are limited to 14 on these two small-group tours, ensuring personalized attention from a guide.
COMPULSORY NOT TAKING ANY RUCKSACK AND LARGE BAGS DURING THE TOUR BECAUSE THE ACCADEMIA GALLERY DOES NOT HAVE A LUGGAGE DEPOSIT AREA AND CLIENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE MUSEUM IF HAVING A BAG EXCEEDING THE SIZE OF A NORMAL SIZE HAND BAG.
Meet your guide in Piazza Strozzi and set off on your small-group walking tour around the streets and piazzas that comprise the citys historical center. Often called the cradle of the Renaissance, the city is home to some of the worlds most important Renaissance art and architecture, and your guide will show off Florences finest examples.
While the Ponte Vecchio Florences famous bridge wasnt built during the Renaissance era, the Vasari Corridor, which runs inside it, was created in the mid-16th century. Hear how the corridor acted as a secret walkway through the town for the Grand Duke Cosimo I, and of the powerful Medici family who decorated its walls with expensive artwork.
Continue to Piazza della Signoria, the old neighborhood of Dante Alighieri, and admire fine examples of Renaissance architecture and statues like the Statue of Giotto outside the Uffizi Gallery. Walk around the outside of Florence Duomo and gaze at Brunelleschis Dome an icon of the city as well as landmarks like Giottos Bell Tower and Ghibertis Gates of Paradise at Florence Baptistry.
After exploring Florences historical center, visit the Accademia Gallery. Skip past the long wait lines with your fast-track entrance ticket, and step inside to learn about the important pieces of artwork within the gallerys walls.
Works by the Renaissance artist Michelangelo take center stage at the museum, and so your guides commentary focuses on his masterpieces. Pass Michelangelos unfinished sculptures San Matteo and Prigioni and then gasp in wonder at the gallerys undeniable centerpiece: David. Learn how the larger-than-life-sized sculpture was created using local Carrera marble, and marvel at the attention to detail that Michelangelo put into his creation.
Your tour finishes inside the Accademia Gallery after viewing David, but you can stay inside the museum to explore independently, if you wish. Rooms containing works by other Renaissance artists, like Sandro Botticelli and Andrea Orcagna, are well worth a visit.

The villa was built by Roman Emperor Hadrian at the foot of the Tiburtine Hills between 118 and 138 AD. The vast residential complex extended over an area of about 120 hectares (about 300 acres) and looked very much like an ancient Roman city. The site included buildings, baths, temples, barracks, theatres, gardens, fountains and nymphaeums. The villa itself was designed on two levels: the upper floor, quiet and welcoming, was reserved for the emperors official use, while the lower floor was noisy and bustled with the work of slaves.

* You can use this formula for all Italian ten-place numbers—so 31 is trent'uno, 32 is trenta due, 33 is trenta tre, etc. Note that—like uno (one), otto (eight) also starts with a vowel—all "-8" numbers are also abbreviated (vent'otto, trent'otto, etc.).
