Hotel Arca di Pienza

A small, family-run hotel in the Tuscan hilltown of Pienza, Italy

This cozy and quiet hotel of just eight elegant rooms lies about 100 yards outside the the old center on the main road into town.

(Pay no attention to the map on the booking site, which places this hotel way up that road; the hotel is actually only about 3 1/2 blocks north of the old town gate.)

It is kept immaculate by Gloria Bernini and her family, who run it with a sincere generosity of spirit—the kind of place where they truly try to make you feel at home.

The rooms are pretty sumptuous, with heavy fabrics draping the windows and hung from half-testers over some of the beds (one room has a four-poster). They serve a large buffet breakfast, and offer free WiFi throughout the hotel.
