» THE VENICE BOOKSHELF
You can sit on straw-bottom chairs inside to listen to the radio and play elbow-hockey with the local workmen who pack the place at lunchtime, or snag one of the four metal tables with plastic charis out front, ranged around an ancient marble well-head under an arbor thick with leafy vines.
Most everyone orders the fixed-price menu, which gives you such choices as pennette in ragu or a rich vegetable soup to start, followed by a mix of roast meats, sarde in saor (fried sardines in vinegar—very Venetian), or oven-roasted pork, with a salad or vegetable side included.
