Planning FAQHotel Il Granaio dei Casabelli [€€–€€€] This hotel occupies a converted old granary right across the street from the Aurea Gate to the ruins site. This means that some of the 14 rooms—simple but spacious, filled with family antiques—actually have full-on views of the ancient temples from their windows. Wow.
It exudes a real home-from-home feel, and the owners and staff are as friendly as can be. You can relax from the hot and dusty day at the archaeological site with a quiet stroll amid the hotel garden shaded by olives, pines, and fruit trees and scented with oleander.
There's also a restaurant (with garden dining in summer) serving homey Campanian specialties. Via Tavernelle 84, Paestum. tel. +39-0828-721-014. www.ilgranaiodeicasabella.com. Closed Nov–Feb. ![]()
Albergo delle Rose [€] - True bargain hunters can head to Paestum's budgeteer crash pad of choice—€40 for a double room (up to €50 in summer), and that includes breakfast. The small, plain, functional doubles come with bath, and are just located about 100 yards from the Paestum museum. It's dull as dry toast, but as a bargain bed it's hard to beat. The restaurant/pizzeria downstairs is also recommended. Via Magna Grecia 193, Paestum. tel. +39-0828-199-0692, www.hotelristorantedellerose.com.
