The Temple of Apollo at sunset.Just across the Ponte Umbertino bridge to Ortigia is the long, shaded Piazza E. Pancali, the end of which opens up into Piazza XXV Luglio, a traffic circle bounded on the east by a sunken archaeological zone the sprouts a few Doric columns stumps, a long low set of stairs, half a wall, lots of weeds, and a few palm trees.

This is what remains of the early 6th-century BC Temple of Apollo, the first Doric temple in Sicily. There's no way to get down into it, and nothing to see other than these columns, but you'll certainly notice the site—and it is, historically, important—so I'm pointing it out.
