Situated in the pleasant and safe neighborhood around the Mergellina hydrofoil docks, the Ausonia is convenient for boats to Ischia (and the Metro del Mare to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast), but its location in this quieter residential area does mean you'll have to end up taking a bus or metro to get to the city center.
It's position at the back of a harborfront building means you're cheated of an ocean view, but that's also something of a plus since you are spared the traffic noise of the busy seaside boulevard.
Instead, windows open onto the courtyard or a noisier back alley, and gauzy curtains graze the marble floors in the breeze.
The nautical theme of porthole mirrors and ship’s helm nightstands is admittedly a bit silly—their motto is "A safe harbor in Naples"—but accommodations are comfortable and relatively roomy (for Naples), and the beds are soft but sleep well.
Some of the bathrooms are tiny and the showers are curtainless, but all of them are clean and modernized.
