Getting there, tourism info and more

Trip-planning basics

  • How long to spend in Caltagirone: If you're into hand-painted Italian ceramics—and, frankly, if you are not, do not bother coming here at all—you'll probably spend about 90 minutes in the museum and seeing the sights and another hour or three shopping for ceramics.
  • How to get to Caltagirone: Caltagirone is in central southern Sicily, 33km (20 miles) southeast of Piazza Armerina, 114km (71 miles) east of Agrigento, 60km (37 miles) north of Ragusa, 90km (56 miles) northwest of Noto, and 100km (62 miles) west-northwest of Siracusa. There are a few direct buses to Caltagirone; most trains require a change at Gela. » more
  • Caltagirone tourist office: The visitor information office is at Via Volta Libertini 4, upstairs in the Palazzo Libertini di S. Marco on Piazza Umberto (tel. +39-0933-53-809, www.comune.caltagirone.ct.it). It is open June to October Monday to Saturday 8:30am to 2pm and 3:30 to 7:30pm, Sunday 9am to 1pm. November to May they open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 2pm, and again Tuesday and Thursday 3:30 to 6pm.
