Trains to Naples

How to get to Naples by rail

There are trains at least twice hourly from Rome (2–2.5 hr.).

Get off at "Napoli-Stazione Mergellina" if you're staying at the Ausonia hotel (or want to take the hydrofoil to Capri from the Mergellina docks), otherwise stay on until the "Napoli-Stazione Centrale/Piazza Garibaldi." This is Naples' central rail station.

Tip
The Naples daily paper Il Mattino has a page near the back listing the current transportation schedules for the entire province, including the state and private rail lines, buses, and ferries.
Watch out for pickpockets. (Seriously; Napoli Stazione Centrale is like ground zero for pickpockets in all of Italy. Same goes for the sprawling, bus-filled Piazza Garibaldi square out front.)
