Ristorante Da Giggetto, RomaThis third-generation classic eatery in the old Jewish Quarter rambles back in room after wood-beamed room hung with drying herbs and spices.

If you want one of the coveted tables wedged between the Roman temple columns sprouting out of the sidewalk in front (see the picture to the left), call ahead.

Since 1923, neighborhood cronies have rubbed elbows with tourists digging into Roman Jewish specialties like carciofi alla Guida (flattened, tender fried artichokes), fiori di zucchine ripieni (fried zucchini flowers stuffed with mozzarella and anchovies), and well-prepared Roman dishes such as bucatini all'amatriciana and abbacchio à scottaditto.

It's easy to go overboard, so keep an eye on that mounting bill.
