Rome Tours & Activities
Tucked into a tiny, triangular, sloping piazza just off the southeast corner of Campo de' Fiori along Via dei Giubbonari is a blue-on-white sign that just says "Filetti di Baccalà."
Join the line of people threading to the back of the bare room where you can order order a filet of baccalà (salt cod) fried golden brown da portar via (wrapped in paper to eat as you passeggiata).
Yes, there are a few tables inside (and, in nice weather, some long ones laid out on the piazza), but they're generally used by small groups of Romans to take a load off for the five minutes it takes them to wolf down their fried snack and chatter about where to passeggiata next.
If it's open, pop into the Alice in Wonderland doorway wedged into the cramped upper corner of the piazza's triangle to see the itty-bitty baroque church of Santa Barbara. Just be sure you finish your baccalà first.
Dar Filettaro is only open from 5pm to 10:40pm.
