Reserve ahead in nice weather for the best seating out on the back terrace, where little tile-topped tables are shaded by the vines of a low hanging arbor.

The clientele is likely to be half tourists (there's a good-value menu turistico) and half regulars on a first-name basis with the chef-owner.

The house dish is ravioli, stuffed with fresh cheeses and deservedly the most popular menu item. Also good are the gnocchi alla sorrentina, tagliolini all'aragosta (ribbons of egg pasta with tomatoes and baby lobsters), and cannelloni caprese (ricotta and spinach–stuffed paste tubes).

For secondi you can sample their simple omlete con mozzarella or spiedini di carne mista (shish kebabs of beef, sausage, and rabbit).

For dessert, try the tiramisù con le fragole (covered with strawberries in season) or a lemon sorbet—though I'm partial to their store-bought tartufo bianco, a gobstopper of ice cream with a chocolate center, vanilla middle layer, all of it rolled in white chocolate crisps (aficionados order it affogato al whiskey for a shot of Scotch poured on top).
